RedDoor is now Cyber Essentials Plus certified
The Cyber Essentials Plus certification was awarded to RedDoor Managed IT in Croydon in May 2024.
RedDoor previously had the basic Cyber Essentials certification, in which organisations self-assess their systems and then complete an online assessment. The online assessment is marked by a Cyber Essentials Assessor who provides feedback on areas where improvements could be made. There is no independent validation of the accuracy of the answers at this level.
Five cybersecurity controls
Both certifications focus on the five essential cybersecurity controls. These are:
- Firewalls
- Secure configuration
- User access control
- Malware protection
- Security update management
Cyber Essentials Plus – the extra layer
However, Plus provides an extra layer of assurance as it is the same as the basic certification but with independent validation made by an accredited third party. Systems are independently tested, and Cyber Essentials is integrated into the organisation’s information risk management.
Businesses need to complete the Cyber Essentials assessment as part of the Plus certification, and this must be completed prior to the Plus assessment. Alternatively, businesses can complete their assessment within three months of their last Cyber Essentials certification.
The cost for the Plus accreditation is dependent on the complexity of the environment but for a simple SME would typically cost around £1,400, subject to VAT within the UK.
RedDoor chose to become Plus certified to show their commitment to their customers. They also wanted to display that the systems they use and offer to their customers are robust enough to stand up to this rigorous audit. Quality software is paramount.
RedDoor is also completing the path to becoming a certified accreditation body for IASME (the UK National Cyber Security Centre partner delivering cyber security).
