Day in the life of Nyron: Information Communication Technician
This month we catch up with Nyron Browne, RedDoor IT’s Level 3 Information Communication Technician Apprentice. We look at his transition into the IT world, daily routine and interests outside of work.
Q: You joined RedDoor IT relatively recently, over the summer of 2024. How has the transition been?
Nyron: It’s been a leap of faith, for sure! I had no professional IT experience, so starting here felt like a big change. Leaving my previous job was a little scary, but I wanted to dive into IT and really start a career in this field. The team at RedDoor has been great, and they’re super supportive, which helps a lot. Every day, I’m learning something new, and I’m starting to feel more confident in my abilities.
Q: Can you walk us through your typical day?
Nyron: I typically start with a callisthenics workout before work – it’s intense but sets me up for the day. Then I stick to a healthy breakfast – something high in protein to keep me energised for the morning. After that, I dive into my workday with RedDoor, which starts by organising my tasks ahead. Since I’m new to the industry, I like to focus on what I need to learn for each task. I also ask questions, which the team encourages. My days are typically quite varied, which I like.
Q: What’s the most exciting part of your job?
Nyron: I love problem-solving, and in IT, there’s always a new challenge to tackle which keeps things interesting. It’s satisfying when you’re able to figure out an issue and get everything back on track. Plus, knowing that I’m growing and building skills I didn’t have before is really rewarding.
Q: Outside of work, what are some hobbies you enjoy?
Nyron: I’m a big fan of basketball. I try to hit the park with friends at least a couple of times a week for a game. It’s a great way to stay active and have some fun. I also enjoy gaming at home and creating videos and music. Making music, in particular, is something I find therapeutic; it’s a different way for me to express myself and explore my creative side.
Q: How do you balance your work and personal life?
Nyron: I make sure I have time for the things I enjoy outside of work, and I’m learning that it’s okay to take breaks. Finding that balance keeps me grounded and lets me give my best in both my work and my personal life.
Q: Any advice for others considering a career switch into IT?
Nyron: Don’t be afraid to take the leap! It can be intimidating, especially if you don’t have a background in IT, but you learn a lot on the job. Just stay open-minded and curious, and don’t hesitate to ask questions. There’s a lot of support out there, and if it’s something you’re genuinely interested in, it’s worth the effort.
