RedDoor IT Celebrates Earth Day 22nd April 2025

At RedDoor IT, we believe that technology and sustainability go hand in hand. As Earth Day approaches, we’re proud to spotlight the meaningful steps we’re taking to operate as an eco-conscious managed IT company. From adopting green transport solutions to recycling old tech equipment and supporting local charities, we are deeply committed to reducing our environmental impact while helping others thrive in a digital world.

This day means a lot to our Operations Manager Kirsten Taylor – “To me, it’s a day to slow down and really appreciate the little things – sunsets that stop you in your tracks, quiet walks that clear your mind, and all the beauty nature gives without asking for much in return.

It’s a reminder to take care of the planet like it takes care of us – gently, consistently, and with love.”

Why Sustainability Matters in Information Technology (IT)

The IT sector is often associated with innovation, speed, and constant evolution, but it also contributes significantly to carbon emissions and electronic waste. We see it as our responsibility to implement practical, environmentally friendly practices that reduce waste, conserve resources, and inspire others in our field to do the same.

Our initiatives

Eco-Friendly Transport:

Reducing transport emissions is one of the most effective ways a business can cut its carbon footprint. At RedDoor IT, we’ve taken this to heart:

  • Our company vehicle is a fully electric Citroën Ami – a compact, ultra-efficient vehicle that perfectly suits our commitment to low-impact transport.
  • We also have a company electric bike, available for our entire team to use. Whether it’s for commuting, client visits, or quick errands around town, our e-bike offers a cleaner, greener way to travel.

Sustainability starts at the top, which is why we’re proud that many of our senior members of staff – Tony Deragon (Account Manager), Mark Deragon (Managing Director), Barry Hannah (Technical Director), and Kirsten Taylor (Operations Manager) all drive electric vehicles. By choosing electric, they’re leading by example and reinforcing our shared commitment to a more sustainable workplace.

IT Recycling and Refurbishment:

As a Managed IT and business services provider, we handle a wide range of tech hardware, and with that comes the responsibility to manage e-waste responsibly.

  • We have a robust tech recycling policy in place that ensures all old and unused equipment is properly recycled through certified channels.
  • Wherever possible, we refurbish devices instead of discarding them. This extends the lifespan of valuable technology and keeps harmful components out of landfills.
  • We often donate Refurbished devices to local charities and community organisations, giving them a second life while helping others in need. This initiative not only reduces waste but also helps to bridge the digital divide, supporting education, opportunity, and access to information for those who need it most.

A Company Culture Focused on Sustainability:

At RedDoor IT, we don’t believe in one-off initiatives. Sustainability is a core value that influences our daily decisions. From office management to supply chain partnerships, we’re always looking for opportunities to lessen our environmental impact.

Some of our ongoing sustainability practices include:

  • Reducing single-use plastics and encouraging reusable alternatives in the office
  • Minimising paper use by going fully digital wherever possible
  • Choosing more energy-efficient hardware and devices
  • We run a hybrid-working model that lowers commuting-related emissions; while ensuring we still deliver exceptional customer service
  • Partnering with vendors who share our commitment to green operations

Our Promise for the Future

We know that protecting the planet requires ongoing commitment and innovation. As we look ahead, we will continue to explore new technologies, refine our processes, and collaborate with clients and partners to implement greener solutions.

Join RedDoor IT in Celebrating Earth Day

Earth Day is more than a date on the calendar, it’s a call to action. We invite our clients, partners and community to take a moment today to consider how you can reduce your environmental footprint. Whatever small steps you take will have a positive consequence as every action makes a difference.

As greenhouse gas emissions have increased rapidly over the last 50 years, and the rate of warming since 1982 is more than three times as fast as the average rate since 1850, there’s no time like the present when it comes to committing to more eco-friendly changes in your life.
